How to sweetly increase sugar beet yield?

increase sugar beet yield

We live in a very fast-changing world that above all is dealing with growing population & increasing needs. Now we know that new strategies must be discovered and adopted through which the needs of society are met with lowest cost & highest efficiency, because that is the only way to keep systems run sustainably. Considering this population change and the need to provide many daily necessities such as “sugar”, new Agri-tech solutions are required.

«Remote sensing» technology is an indirect and non-destructive observation method that provides great quantitative information about the productivity rates of agricultural products without the need for sampling. In one of our meetings with the agricultural experts from one of the major sugar factories, we offered building an integrated micro-land management plan, a dedicated web-based system that obtains remote sensing data from satellites to provide decision-support tools for all farms under supervision.

What we suggested was that…

Our company’s initial suggestion was to hold a monthly meeting with the factory experts and relevant officials to first identify the main problems and possible factors reducing efficiency, by conducting field surveys and the help from factory experts. Next, we agreed to add every field in the region in our system in order to provide precise analytical information to factory experts and farmers, and to guide them to troubleshoot and improve the quality of their products.

Sugar beet is a strategic product in many areas. It is a relatively hardy crop that adapts to its own conditions, but the production inputs are costly and it is important for industrial entities to discuss the cost since they have to provide the inputs to the farmers.

For integrated land management, we defined each land in the system and the administration panel was provided to the experts of the sugar factory so they can study any problems in detail. They could now identify water stress, fertilizer stress (nutrients), determine weeding or thinning time (in terms of delay or its arrival), discuss planting dates, and know which parts of a land need irrigation or fertilization.

We had started a big project in cooperation with this factory. The average yield of sugar beet in this area was previously stated to be around 50 tons (per hectare), but we still hoped that we could discover and modify the parameters that could affect the average yield in our favor and eventually create a new structure for this.

Irrigation management:

Indicators derived from remote sensing are very effective in determining the relative content of leaf water as a sign for dehydration stress; Therefore, due to the differences in the soil system, only the parts of the land that need irrigation are identified and water consumption is optimized.

Weed measurement:

One of the most important challenges of sugar beet in the early stages of growth is the high growth rate of weeds. It is possible to control the number of weeds by using satellite images and standardizing crop growth according to the climate of the region.

Performance forecast:

By combining remote sensing data and climatic/meteorological data, the growth rate of sugar beet crop can be estimated with appropriate accuracy. By determining and predicting the yield of sugar beet fields, a smarter planning will become possible for providing manpower and raw materials.

Quality estimation:

Sugar content, as a very important parameter in sugar beet tuber, has a direct connection with the plant growth process and nitrogen level. Fortunately, it can be estimated using a wide range of satellite images.

Cropinno can help saving your time and costs by closely monitoring your sugar beet farm and applying the results of remote sensing

data analysis. It also provides an accurate and intelligent management in sugar beet cultivation, which will certainly help to achieve better results.

If you own a farm or work in agriculture, you can Register right now and benefit from this feature and many more, to cut your costsincrease your yield and manage your farm at best.
